Our client, a global leader in paints and coatings for a wide variety of applications, requires an experienced coatings Technical Manager to lead a R&D team at their corporate research center. Previous experience with industrial coatings development, including an emphasis on powder coatings is highly preferred. 

  • Manage professional level research and development personnel in a corporate laboratory facility. 
  • Develop technical project objectives, including budgets, timelines, materials and personnel while determining project feasibility and other requirements. 
  • Review and evaluate projects to ensure compliance with goals and objectives. 
  • Translate the Technology strategy into tactical deliverables while holding team members accountable for project execution.
  • Supervise staff to include hiring, training, performance evaluation and disciplinary actions when necessary. 
  • Present technology, product and application information to internal and external customers. 
  • Collaborate with product line management and other functional leadership to help create product strategy and to ensure new product development. 
  • Ensure the team functions as a primary source of contact to address highly technical questions from customers, manufacturing, Quality Control, research professionals and other internal and external audiences. 
  • Provide leadership to manage intellectual property and ensure compliance with all IP laws, regulations and policies. 

  • At least 8 years of industrial chemistry experience including 5 years of project management experience within the coatings, chemicals, plastics or materials industries. 
  • At least 2 years of prior experience supervising chemists, scientists, technicians involved in product formulation or development. 
  • Previous experience in a technical function in the powder coatings market highly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success in project management. 
  • Strong understanding of Lean Six Sigma design tools and Stage Gate Product development principles. 
  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate Science or Engineering discipline with an advanced degree highly desirable.
