Position Description:
Our Plant is located approximately 40 miles West of Ottumwa. The Process engineer provides technical and process assistance to the Company’s Technical / Manufacturing departments and our customers in the form of quality and process improvements, trial coordination process, analyzing trial data, trial effectiveness, cost reduction, safety enhancement, and troubleshooting. Also responsible for ongoing site maintenance of applicable SMS manufacturing specifications ensuring data integrity in a manner consistent with the standardized divisional governance requirements, including adherence to the SAP product definition data.
Position Description:
  • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities.
  • Awareness of and Adherence to all, Corporate& Site; Environmental, Health, & Safety, policies & procedures. 
  • Writes, performs, analyzes, and reports on trials, scale-ups, and validations for the manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoots production and process problems; communicates with manufacturing, quality, and technical people regarding run problems; investigates root causes and recommends and helps implement corrective actions.
  • Reviews data and trial reports from technical for products being developed and reports concerns and results to the appropriate department managers.
  • Assist with following and coordination of production trials providing accurate and detailed feedback to Trial owners, Manufacturing, Technical Manager, and Marketing.
  • Analyze trial quality, output, and waste data to determine trial effectiveness / specification commercialization.     
  • Facilitate and maintain manufacturing specification requirements ensuring accurate Customer and Internal manufacturing requirements for all aspects of SMS at the site level. Coordination of specification data creation and cleansing with the appropriate shared specification owners within the organization to ensure complete and accurate Customer and manufacturing information for productive use.
  • Reviews SMS data accuracy, integrity, and completeness across the areas of responsibility
  • Maintains and facilitates a working knowledge of how the specifications are generated and how they relate to the manufacturing operations.
  • Facilitation of all requested specification modifications including communications to all applicable sites Planning, Manufacturing, Technical and Business Data resourcing ensuring SMS and SAP data synchronization.
  • Identifies and resolves issues that impact data aspects through root cause analysis and corrective action management as it relates to specification impacts to all operation resources & departments
  • Maintains and tracks the progress in data quality improvements where needed to support the productive use of the data in SMS in support of manufacturing process needs.
  • Assists with coordination and movement of specifications between plants within the business unit.
  • Actively leads Quality and SEDA improvement teams as assigned
  • Provide guidance to manufacturing staff, leads, supervisors, managers and planning on trials
  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple manufacturing processes.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge.
  • General knowledge of statistical methods for improvements (Mini-Tab, Excel).
  • High degree business process experience, within assigned business function.
  • Good data skills with ability to incorporate good written & oral communication.
  • Strong interpretive, analytical and math skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Vigorous problem solving and investigative abilities.
  • Ability to organize and disseminate information efficiently, write and/or adjust reports used to provide data quality metrics.
  • Must be able to work with and communicate to all levels of resources and management
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills and the ability to maintain long and short-term projects.
  • Strong background / knowledge of Microsoft computer software.
  • Minimal travel will be required.
  • Business-related continuing education, seminars, and upkeep are expected.
  • Demonstrated strong level of business acumen to understand the drivers of operating profit, working capital, return on sales and other key business metrics.
  • Working knowledge of quality testing as related to trial key attributes.
Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field with 1-3 years of experience; Masters level degree preferred
  • 5-7 years’ experience working with business functions and the associated data requirements preferred 
  • Six Sigma certification at a black belt level strongly preferred
  • Completion of Company’s Quality Foundations training or willingness to complete such training upon acceptance of this role.
  • Completion of Finance for Non-Finance professionals and/or other Business Acumen training or a willingness to complete this training upon acceptance of this role.
